    The 1st International Conference on Design and PROcesses for MEdical Devices (PROMED), sponsored by CIRP, will be held in Padenghe sul Garda (Brescia) on May 2-4, 2012.

    It is a meeting about manufacturing, medical devices design, development, biomaterials and more.

  • Portale web delle pubblicazioni scientifiche del Politecnico di Torino

    Il Politecnico di Torino ha creato il portale web “PORTO-Publications Open Repository TOrino”, in cui si possono trovare le pubblicazioni scientifiche prodotte dalla propria comunità.
    Si tratta di una vetrina dei prodotti della ricerca di ateneo che affianca i dati bibliografici delle pubblicazioni ai full text ad accesso aperto degli articoli.

    PORTO è uno strumento in linea con i principi della Commissione Europea che vuole disseminati ad accesso aperto i risultati della ricerca finanziata con fondi pubblici.
    L’Open Access ai prodotti della ricerca è quindi uno degli strumenti che la CE ha individuato per accrescere l’impatto e le sinergie tra il mondo dell’industria e quello della ricerca agevolando il trasferimento tecnologico dei risultati della ricerca. La CE promuove quindi l’accesso aperto ai prodotti della ricerca come strumento per accrescere la visibilità e l’impatto della ricerca europea e accelerare il progresso scientifico nell’ambito dell’ERA.
    Con PORTO il Politecnico di Torino si pone in prima linea nel contesto italiano nel favorire e incrementare il processo di disseminazione della conoscenza scientifica.

  • ERA-IB third Joint Call for Proposals: “Industrial biotechnology for Europe”

    A third call for multilateral research projects using Industrial Biotechnology (IB) is launched by ERA-IB, a mechanisms supported by the European Commission. The title is Industrial biotechnology for Europe: an integrated approach.

    Its main goal is to encourage academics and industrial researchers with expertise in IB to work together across the whole value chain.

    By co-funding this call, the organizations will contribute to less fragmentation of resources and an increase in transnational networking. Cross-border partnerships are important objectives to achieve sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based products.
    The joint call’s main objective is to establish joint research and development activities in the field of Industrial Biotechnology, as part of the KBBE theme of the Seventh European Framework Programme (FP7).

    These shared projects must be composed of a minimum of three and a maximum of eight participants from at least three ERA-IB partner countries.

    The deadline for submitting pre-proposals is 30 April 2012 and full proposals must be submitted by 31 July 2012. Projects are expected to start early 2013.

  • EuropaBio’s Most Innovative European Biotech SME Award 2012

    EuropaBio’s Most Innovative Biotech SME Award aims to reward SMEs which are operating in all applications of biotechnology, from agriculture to industrial and healthcare, and which are making a significant contribution to providing innovative solutions

    EuropaBio-European Association for BioIndustries invites applications for the 2012 competition.

    The award offers the opportunity to build the public profiles of companies leading the way in developing Europe’s strong scientific potential in the application of biotechnology.  With a prize fund of € 10,000 and two years free membership of EuropaBio (worth over €5,000), the competition is again expected to attract an outstanding array of applications from across EU member states and representing all sectors of the Biotech industry.
    The award will be presented at a public event in the European Parliament in Brussels. This event will be a showcase for innovative Biotechnology in Europe.

    The main criteria for applying are that the company applying must qualify as an SME under the standard EU SME definition and it should be based in one of the European member states. The innovative idea or products must solve and tackle some of society’s biggest environmental, technical or social challenges for the future. Applicants must also explain their business strategy for the upcoming 24 months, including how to overcome challenges in raising capital.
